An ambitious plan to rid Mumbai of slums - Niranjan Hiranandani

  Prominent constructor Niranjan Hiranandani, 73, has put out a fresh proposal to eradicate slums from Mumbai within five years. The National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO), an independent organization within the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs, has nominated him chairman. Niranjan Hiranandani told the FPJ that after the slum dwellers were rehabilitated into suitable dwellings, the acres of land they now occupied should be put up for auction and sold to the highest bidder. Slum redevelopment programs should give high priority to resolving their current problems. Rehab plans that are beneficial to them should not be delayed by slum inhabitants. This was a much improved slum rehabilitation strategy that took a comprehensive approach to include all of Greater Mumbai.
